Grace and Larissa visit Smith Rock State Park
Grace and Larissa recently visited Smith Rock State Park to reconnect with the landscape we’re helping to shape. Together, they hiked the park’s canyon trails and watched as Grace climbed a rocky outcrop. These experiences underscore the impact of our master planning work on visitor enjoyment and safety.
At Winterbrook Planning, we led the land use planning and compliance for the Smith Rock Master Plan in close collaboration with Greenworks, Deschutes County, and Oregon State Parks. In phase one, we developed a regulatory framework for trail corridors and facility siting. Now, during implementation, we’re refining detailed designs for the Welcome Center, expanded trail network, parking areas, and utilities. Our field siting and review process ensures each element integrates seamlessly into the high-desert terrain Larissa and Grace explored.

Grace climbing
By walking these trails and witnessing firsthand how our planning decisions unfold on the ground, Larissa and Grace gained deeper insights into our approach. Their experience reaffirms our commitment to delivering integrated, locally-tailored land use solutions that balance recreation with conservation—so that Smith Rock remains an exceptional destination for hikers and climbers alike.
