Senior Planner/Planner III

The candidate will be utilizing project management skills and working closely with clients and municipalities for multiple projects at a time. This is an in-office or hybrid position to the extent possible while complying with City, State, and Federal guidelines. We may consider transitioning to fully remote work for the right candidate.

Job Functions:

  • Analyze land use, environmental, and permitting issues from a variety of perspectives, including regulator and user
  • Manage complex planning studies, development applications and consultant proposals
  • Review and process complex comprehensive plan amendments, rezones and annexations
  • Develop project budgets and track contract expenditures
  • Conduct research and prepare statistical reports on land use, physical, social & economic issues
  • Provide professional planning assistance to cities and counties on varied land use projects
  • Prepare plans relating to natural/water resources, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management
  • Perform field inspections to gather information about development proposals
  • Schedule and conduct meetings with clients, regulators, and other consultants
  • Present to planning commissions, elected officials, and planning staff
  • Supervise junior planners within Winterbrook
  • Collaborate with teams–attorneys, planners, policy professionals, other consultants–and be comfortable stepping into a project manager role
  • Facilitate public engagement activities, both in-person and virtual
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in planning or related field and 5 years of professional planning experience OR equivalent combined experience and education
  • Supervisory experience
  • Membership in AICP is preferred

The Candidate:
Is Experienced – At least 5 years of land use experience, with at least 2 years in a consulting environment.

Is Ambitious – Aspires to learn and grow with us, while utilizing their unique experiences and background to bring fresh perspectives and opinions to the table.

Is Independent – Self-directed and can work independently to drive project deliverables on time and on budget. Performs long-range and operational planning functions with a great deal of independence, including preparation of comprehensive plan amendments, development regulations, and managing development review projects and processes.

Is Relationship-focused – Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative approach, team player and you thrive on developing rapport with others.

Is Hard Working – You care deeply about delivering for your clients and your diligent, quality work reflects this.

Salary:

$93,000 – $125,000 DOE

    Associate Planner/Planner II

    • Interpret and apply applicable state, county and local codes, ordinances and regulations
    • Assist with updates and maintenance of Comprehensive Plan and land development regulations
    • Prepare various development applications including plats, conditional use and design review permits, site plans, variance requests and rezonings
    • Write and present formal and technical reports, working papers, and correspondence
    • Develop long range plans for communities with common developmental issues
    • Develop strategies to promote economic and community development or efficient land use consistent with community goals
    • Writes, or assists in writing, a variety of ordinances and regulations relating to development controls
