Happy 2 year work anniversary to Maddy Poehlein

Congrats to Maddy Poehlein on her two-year work anniversary! Since joining the team, Maddy has brought a strong focus on public health, environmental equity, and thoughtful land use planning to each project.

Maddy holds both a Master of Urban and Regional Planning and a Master of Public Health from Portland State University. Her background shapes her approach to planning, with an emphasis on how the built environment affects community health and well-being. At Winterbrook, she specializes in long-range housing planning, community engagement, code research, spatial analysis, and preparing development applications for public and private clients.

Over the past year, Maddy has played a key role on several major projects, including:

Pendleton Housing Capacity Analysis & Housing Production Strategy

Maddy has been instrumental in helping the City of Pendleton plan for its future growth. She prepared an updated Housing Capacity Analysis (HCA), which included a comprehensive residential Buildable Lands Inventory (BLI). Maddy’s work ensured the City’s compliance with state requirements (ORS 197.296) while demonstrating that Pendleton can accommodate its housing needs for the next 20 years. Following her successful presentations to the Planning Commission and City Council, she is now leading the city’s Housing Production Strategy (HPS) to develop actionable policies for housing affordability.

Cleveland High School Modernization

Closer to home in SE Portland, Maddy worked with Ben Schonberger on the Type III Conditional Use Application for the Cleveland High School Modernization project. The project required navigating the constraints of a large public high school on an R2.5 site, necessitating 20 separate adjustments. Maddy worked closely with the design team to craft findings and lead the community engagement process, ensuring the project met both development standards and the needs of the neighborhood.

Congratulations, Maddy!
