Columbia Memorial Hospital expansion groundbreaking
Winterbrook Planning is proud to be part of a significant moment in Astoria’s history as Columbia Memorial Hospital (CMH) broke ground on its ambitious expansion project. The expansion, which will more than triple the hospital’s size from 56,000 to 182,000 square feet, marks a major milestone in the community’s healthcare future.
Our involvement has been essential in guiding the city’s planning process, working closely with the City of Astoria to craft a code amendment package that allows for the project’s full potential to be realized. Managing Principal Jesse Winterowd and the Winterbrook team helped navigate these crucial changes, ensuring that the hospital campus would have the flexibility needed for its multi-phase, long-term expansion plan. One key aspect of the amendment is the increase in allowable building height, from 45 feet to over 90 feet, which enables CMH to build upper floors capable of functioning during an earthquake or tsunami.
With construction now underway, the hospital will soon offer expanded Emergency, Surgery, and Imaging Departments, as well as spa-like birth suites in the Labor and Delivery Unit, private inpatient rooms, and the region’s first Tsunami Vertical Evacuation Structure.
We are excited to see this project take off, as we continue to work the City of Astoria to help it succeed.
