Columbia Memorial Hospital code amendments approved!

The Astoria City Council has approved a code amendment package to facilitate the expansion of Columbia Memorial Hospital, providing flexibility for the $175 million project. Winterbrook PlanningĀ is assisting the city this important project.

The changes involve exempting the hospital from design requirements, allowing it to exceed the 45-foot height standard, crucial for implementing upper floors as tsunami refuge. The amendment also eliminates the need for the project’s review by the Historic Landmarks Commission, streamlining the development process. City Manager Scott Spence emphasized the amendments offer a predictable path for the lengthy project.

Columbia Memorial’s CEO, Erik Thorsen, expressed gratitude for the city’s support, considering the project a legacy building serving the community for the next 50 years.

Mayor Sean Fitzpatrick commended the hospital’s efforts, expressing excitement about the project’s advancement.
