Tigard Tree Groves field work
Over the past couple of weeks, Winterbrook Planning has been actively engaged in the River Terrace 2.0 Community Plan, focusing on a comprehensive inventory of significant tree groves and specimen trees in this 500-acre urbanizing area on the west side of Tigard. This project is a continuation of Tigard’s legacy of protecting it’s natural resources, and a continuation of some of our past work with Tigard.
Led by our Senior Environmental Scientists Anita Smyth and Phil Quarterman, our team has meticulously documented and assessed the natural systems vital to the area.
This project is a prime example of how Winterbrook Planning works toward our mission of integrating people, communities, and the natural and built environments. By inventorying specimen trees and tree groves, we will help ensure that key natural resources of Tigard are considered as the area urbanizes. Our work will continue with the preparation of the ESEE (Economic, Social, Environmental, and Energy) Analysis and the drafting of policies and development code designed to protect significant tree groves and specimen trees, crafting innovative and locally tailored solutions that align with our commitment to environmental stewardship.
Winterbrook Planning will also participate in meetings with the City, it’s citizens, and Technical Advisory Committees to review the draft inventory and discuss strategies for tree grove protection. These efforts are critical in ensuring that the natural and built environments in River Terrace 2.0 are cohesively integrated, contributing to the long-term sustainability and livability of the community.
