After two impactful years with Winterbrook Planning, we have bittersweet news as Maddy Poehlein is stepping into a new role as Built Environment Program Specialist with the Multnomah County Health Department.

Maddy transportation planning

At Winterbrook, Maddy contributed to a wide range of housing and land use planning efforts, including Pendleton’s Housing Capacity Analysis and ongoing Housing Production Strategy. She conducted buildable lands inventories, presented findings to decision-makers, facilitated community engagement, and prepared detailed land use applications. On projects such as the Cleveland High School Modernization, she worked closely with the design team and city staff to navigate conditional use requirements and numerous adjustments.

In her new role, Maddy will work at the intersection of the built environment and public health, helping shape policies and programs that create healthier communities through transportation and land use interventions. Her work will focus on how neighborhoods, streets, and public spaces influence physical activity, safety, and health outcomes, and will include collaborating with planners and agency partners on strategies to advance more equitable, healthy, and resilient communities.

This role is a natural next step and a direct extension of the land use and housing planning work she conducted at Winterbrook.

Maddy, thank you for your steady commitment to equity. We’re proud of you and excited to see the impact you’ll make in your next chapter.
