Wallowa County has experienced major wildland fires during the last decade and is the first county in Oregon to systematically address this problem in its comprehensive plan and zoning regulations.

Based on the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, Winterbrook worked closely with retired Planning Director Harold Black to prepare amendments to the Natural Hazard chapter of the Wallowa County Comprehensive Plan, and a new Wildfire Hazard Overlay Zone applied to mapped “communities at risk” and “wildland urban interface areas”, regardless of base zoning, throughout the county.

The Wallowa County Planning Commission recommended approval of the plan and code amendment package.
