After a virtual conference and Pendleton, this year Winterbrook Planning is delighted to welcome the 2024 OAPA Annual Planning Conference to Portland, right in our own backyard, October 16-18, 2024. This year’s theme, Navigating the Future: Planners Initiating Change, aligns perfectly with our commitment to guiding Oregon’s communities through transformative changes.

We’re particularly excited about the conference’s focus on real-world applications and strategies. Mobile workshops like the walking tour of Portland’s middle housing will provide an in-depth look at our city’s efforts to increase housing diversity. Sessions on AI ethics in urban planning and wildfire mitigation will address some of the most pressing challenges facing our communities today.

Another highlight is the session “Beyond Box-Checking: Reimagining Community Engagement in Oregon,” which will explore new ways to involve communities in the planning process, a core principle of our work at Winterbrook. This year’s conference will also feature a dedicated track for emerging planners, with sessions like “So You Want a Planning Job?” and hands-on workshops to help launch their careers.

The conference offers ample opportunities for networking, including an evening event along the SE Hawthorne Corridor, featuring Portland’s famous food carts and outdoor bars.
