Coastal hazards planning in New York Times

The New York Times recently published an article about the Cascadia Subduction Zone and the impact tsunamis will have on the population of coastal Oregon and Washington. In the article, they detail the many ways that the cities along the coast are adapting and preparing for the tsunami resulting from a 9.0 earthquake along the Cascadia Fault.

As part of these preparations, Winterbrook Planning led the Seaside School District’s application to amend the Seaside UGB to accommodate a new K-12 campus above the tsunami inundation zone. Winterbrook drafted detailed findings for Seaside land use proposal, and drafted a new I-C Campus Institutional Zone for schools and hospitals.

Along with other coastal cities throughout Northern California, Oregon, and Washington, The New York Times mentioned Seaside’s effort to relocate schools outside of the tsunami inundation zone, to the hills east of the city.
