As we celebrate National Public Garden Day, Winterbrook Planning takes pride in our ongoing commitment to integrating people, communities, and the natural environment—a mission exemplified by our work with Leach Botanical Garden in Portland.

Initiated by the American Public Gardens Association (APGA), National Public Garden Day serves as a platform to celebrate and promote activities essential to the preservation and sustainability of public gardens. From plant conservation and water conservation to green space preservation and home gardening, this day emphasizes the vital role that public gardens play in nurturing our environment and enriching our lives.

Our involvement in Leach’s Upper Garden Development Project underscores our values of excellence, integrity, and creativity. Collaborating with Portland Parks and Recreation, we facilitated the planning and permitting processes, ensuring the seamless realization of new botanical collections, visitor facilities, and educational spaces. Through our meticulous environmental review and land use permitting efforts, we helped pave the way for the garden’s expansion, enriching the community with vibrant green spaces and educational opportunities.

Our history with Leach Botanical Garden runs deep, with Principal Tim Brooks’s involvement spanning over 35 years. From contributing to the garden’s master plan to cataloging plant collections and serving on the Education Committee, our team has been dedicated to nurturing this botanical gem.

On this special day, let us reflect on the profound impact of public gardens in enabling connection, well-being, and environmental stewardship. Through our dedication to excellence and innovation, Winterbrook Planning remains steadfast in our mission to create sustainable, enriching spaces that harmonize with nature and serve the needs of communities across the Pacific Northwest.
